Audio Recording – Help Us Read Around the World Wiki Page

Do you still remember the audio recordings of your reading about two weeks ago?  Well, I encourage you all to visit the page again and listen to another group of children reading The Cat in the Hat (Yannie, Sam, Kaisy and Luigi of Jun 2A) as well as other children from USA and from Indonesia too!!!

Click on the link below to listen to these children reading their favourite stories and remember that you must keep your favourite book in your bag so that as soon as Ms Rosienne manages to find some ‘free’ time during our day at school, I can record you again!

Note for Junior 2B Parents

Note for Junior 2B Parents

Dear Parents,

Jake Huber’s mum has asked me to ask you whether you could kindly send her an sms on her mobile no 79341538 to confirm whether you will be able to take your child to Jake’s party this Saturday 25th February at Funland, Piazza Cascata, St George’s Road, St. Julians between 1.30 and 3.30pm.

The invitations had to be given out last Friday but unfortunately I left them on my desk and so your child will be bringing the invitation home today.  Apologies for late note!

Regards

Ms Rosienne

New Words for next Friday plus today’s Homework

New Words for next Friday plus today’s Homework

Dear All,

Here’s the list of new words to study for next Friday: the new sound is ‘ow’ (long vowel o sound as ‘oa’ in boat) - own, bow, low, show, grow, throw, yellow, snowman, put and saw.

Today’s Homework for Monday 27th February:

  • Literacy booklet page 6
  • New words to study for Friday 2nd March
  • Choose 6 ow words and write interesting sentences on your yellow copybook

This morning we had an English/ Creative Thinking session about an imaginary visit to a Scary Farm – we changed our classroom into a bus with rows of chairs behind each other and one of the children pretended to be the bus driver taking us on a bumpy ride to this far away place.  We imagined we were on the farm full of wild and scary creatures.  We also created a story about the monsters we saw on the farm.

Here’s the story created by the Junior 2B kids

For homework today, the children are asked to write a timetable for our visit to the scary farm – they can refer to Collins Literacy IB for ideas.  Literacy booklet page 6.

Please note that those who already did it at home need to rub it off and start again, this time using the ideas shared in class.

Your 2nd StoryBird – call for stories about ANIMALS

Your 2nd StoryBird – call for stories about ANIMALS

Dear Junior 2s,

I hope you are enjoying the Carnival holidays.  Remember the Christmas story you all wrote for our wiki pages?

It’s time for you to sit down and start working on your second Storybird story, if you wish –  have a look at the link below and choose an animal or group of animals – then write a story with the help of the pictures.  When you finish the story choose an interesting title that is suitable for the story you wrote.

http://storybird.com/search/artwork/?q=animals&x=0&y=0

Note for Parents: please note that this work is not compulsory – however, it would be great to encourage your child to work on his/her own story to share with others on our wiki pages.  The children can choose to write a story about an animal or group of animals we mentioned during our exploration of the theme ‘Habitats’.  Once your child is satisfied with his/her story, kindly leave me a comment here and copy and paste the link to your story.  Remember to make the story ‘Public’ not ‘Private’ so that others can read it too.

See you tomorrow.

Twinning Project between Junior 2A and Pre-Junior A

Twinning Project between Junior 2A and Pre-Junior A

Dear Kids,

Hope you had a good day at school today – I was very happy to hear from Ms Gillian and Ms Belinda who replaced me in class these past two days and who said that they enjoyed teaching you and that you behaved well.  That is what I like to hear and it makes me proud to be one of your teachers:)

On Tuesday, we were a bit disappointed that we didn’t manage to go to the Bird Park because of the bad weather.  However this disappointment was quickly replaced by a feeling of excitement for the children in Junior 2A who got an invitation from Ms Gaby and her class to join them for another activity based on the story of The Mixed Up Chameleon by Eric Carle.  Noor and Luigi had an even bigger reason to feel excited about this project as they were going to get the chance to work with their little sisters, both of whom are students in Ms Gaby’s class.

When we went into class, the Pre-Juniors were obviously happy to see us again – some asked about children who had been there the day before (and I explained that these were also Junior 2 pupils but that they belonged to a different class).  I asked them whether they remembered the story of the mixed-up chameleon and they obviously did.  The Pre-Juniors talked and explained to the Junior 2s what they had learned the previous day about chameleons and some of the Junior 2s joined in to provide more detail to what was being said.

We watched the video clip of the story and both groups really enjoyed this part – it is indeed a very sweet story with lots of familiar animals.  It was amazing to see how the little ones could recall which animal would the chameleon meet next … they have such a great memory!  In the end the children expressed their satisfaction when they saw that the chameleon realised it would rather be its own old self again as otherwise it won’t be able to use its long sticky tongue to catch a fly – its favourite meal!

As an activity, the children were given a small chameleon each, which they had to either sponge paint to obtain the effect of the scaly skin or use materials to make a collage out of it.  Another group of Junior 2s and Pre-Juniors worked on a big wall chart which will eventually serve as a background.

Have a look at the wiki page we created for this project and there you’ll find some beautiful pictures taken during the activity:

The children all did a brilliant job … they enjoyed working together, behaved extremely well considering the large number of children in one class and learnt a lot of new things and skills too by working together with older or younger kids.

The children in Junior 2B also got a chance to sponge paint their own chameleons – an activity they thoroughly enjoyed!  During the day they also worked on their lapbook project on Patterns in the Animal Kingdom which they finalised and brought back home on the same day.

Hope you are all ready for tomorrow’s Carnival party – good night and sleep tight little ones:)

Ms Rosienne
